This incredible collection of more than 100 anonymous photographs is all about me—and us.

Based in New York, collector Peter Cohen has compiled one of the most significant archives of vernacular photographs in the world. Cohen, who began acquiring images in the 1950s, organizes his collection of approximately 60,000 photographs by topic (e.g., “People on Poles and Trees” and “Dangerous Women”). He has gifted over 12,000 works from his collection to about 40 institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York.
