Esopus sent writer Heather Larson to Palestine, West Virginia, on July 4th weekend to “get the story on getting the story” on Pfc. Jessica Lynch. Lacking the dangling carrots offered by other reporters (from promises of Ashanti concerts to book and movie deals), Larson found something else entirely, going deeper in some ways than any well-armed media soldier could, or most likely would.
