Tod Lippy, founder and editor of Esopus, led a conversation about archives as a site for contemporary artistic practice with artists Mary Ellen Carroll and Mary Lum. Throughout the event, Carroll and Lum reflected on their practice in general while also discussing their projects with the MoMA Archives for the 2020 publication Modern Artifacts. Three years after the publication of the award-winning book, the evening also celebrated its successful collaborations.
The event was part of a new series created by Michelle Elligott, the Museum's Chief of Archives, Library, and Research Collections. Titled "Dialogues in the Archives," past programs in the series have focused on Adam Pendleton's publishing practice and David Getsy's award-winning book Queer Behavior: Scott Burton and Performance Art.
